Privacy Policy

This policy covers both the Bayan website (trybayan.com) and the Bayan iOS app.

Website Data (trybayan.com)

When you interact with our website, we may collect the following:

• Email addresses — no longer collected: Bayan has launched, and the beta waitlist that collected email addresses has been removed from the site. There is no longer any form here that asks for your email. Addresses submitted while the waitlist was open remain stored in Cloudflare KV and are still covered by this policy: they are used solely to announce the launch, are not linked to any app usage data, and can be deleted on request by emailing privacy@trybayan.com.
• Survey responses: If you answer the optional survey on the landing page, your response is stored anonymously with a timestamp. No personal information is attached.
• Rate limiting: Your IP address is used temporarily (up to one hour) to prevent abuse. It is not stored beyond that window and is not linked to your email or any other data.
• Hosting: The website is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. Cloudflare may process standard web traffic data (IP address, user agent) in accordance with Cloudflare's Privacy Policy.

App Data

No personal data. The Bayan app collects no personal data. There is no account, no advertising identifier, no usage tracking and no analytics SDK in the app. Your reading history, bookmarks and preferences stay on your device.

One optional feature is the single exception. Cloud Analysis is disabled by default, and when you turn it on it transmits the text of the poem you are reading off your device for AI analysis. Nothing about you is sent with it. This is described in full under Cloud Analysis below.

On-Device Storage

• Reading history and bookmarks are stored in a local SQLite database on your device. This data is never transmitted to any server.
• Preferences (font size, theme, display mode) are stored locally using UserDefaults.
• Nothing else. Bayan is free and has no in-app purchase, so there is no entitlement, receipt or purchase history held anywhere — on your device or off it.

Cloud Analysis (Opt-In Only)

Bayan offers an optional Cloud AI analysis feature for poems without on-device analysis. This feature is disabled by default and requires explicit opt-in in Settings.

When opted in:

• The Farsi text of individual poems, together with the poet's name and collection type, is sent to a secure Cloudflare Worker endpoint for analysis.
• The analysis is produced by third-party AI. Two parties process what is sent: our Cloudflare Workers service, and Meta's Llama 3.3 70B model running on our infrastructure through Cloudflare Workers AI. No one else receives it.
• No personal data, account information, or device identifiers are sent from the app.
• The request itself is not stored. To stop one caller exhausting a service that has no accounts behind it, we keep a daily request count against a one-way digest of the network address the request arrived from. The digest changes every day, is never linked to anything else, and expires within 48 hours. We do not store the address.
• All communication is encrypted via HTTPS.
• Analysis results are cached locally on your device.

You can disable this at any time in the app's Settings.

Network Requests

Bayan's core functionality is fully offline. The app makes zero network requests unless you explicitly opt in to Cloud Analysis. Links are the one thing to know about: tapping the privacy policy, Contact Support, or “Look up on Wiktionary” for a word the bundled dictionary does not carry hands the address to Safari or Mail, which then make the request under their own rules. Bayan itself sends nothing.

Third-Party Services

• Cloudflare Workers AI (opt-in): Runs the Cloud Analysis feature. Poem text is processed by our Cloudflare Workers service and by Meta's Llama 3.3 70B model running on our infrastructure. No personal data transmitted. See Cloudflare's Privacy Policy.
• Cloudflare Pages: Website hosting and storage for survey responses and previously collected waitlist emails. See Cloudflare's Privacy Policy.

App Store Analytics

One thing is worth stating plainly because it is not ours to promise away. Apple provides every developer on the App Store with aggregate, anonymised reporting about their app — installs, crashes, and similar figures — and some of that is drawn from the device analytics a user chooses to share with Apple under Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements.

That reporting is Apple's, is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy, and is controlled from that Settings screen rather than from anything in Bayan. We see only totals and never anything that identifies you or what you read. Bayan itself contains no analytics SDK and sends us nothing.

Children's Privacy

Bayan does not knowingly collect any data from children. Since Bayan collects no personal data from any user, it is safe for all ages.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy to reflect changes in the app. Updates will be posted on this page.
